"You should always carry a pocket knife when you go walking in the woods. Because if you get lost, sit down and start sharpening it and a man will *immediately* appear to tell you you're doing it wrong, and you can ask him the way back to the road"

@skinnylatte You will get an even better response if you are posting some slightly wrong information. This will not just trigger the Autists but the OCD-people as well.
-
@skinnylatte i bet that works great when you have 11k followers... for the rest of us finding the right receptive community is a bigger issue...

@skinnylatte a friend of mine was writing a user interface to enter phone numbers, and wanted it to be aware of all the local formatting conventions - I suggested he create a Wikipedia page listing the ones he knew in a table and wait a month for it to fill out, then parse the table to get a comptehensive list. Apparently it worked!

@skinnylatte AI is great!
Autistic Interests >>> Artificial Inanity

@skinnylatte You're lucky, my posts often remain unseen or only 1 person boosts/likes, few useful replies.

@skinnylatte This makes me remember a famous prank (in nerd circles) in Brazil 2012.
Cid Cidoso, an internet influencer and prankster, convinced his digital illiterate father that Twitter was Google, and told him to make all his searches there. Cid's followers answered the searches his father made.
I've found an Youtube video of Cid explaning this story, but unfortunately only in Portuguese.

@skinnylatte …you know…even with the problems this place can have (and no it’s not immune to the ills of social networks…different perhaps but there are still toxic aspects/people etc)…it *is* better to ask here.
Why?
Discounting the whole Ai destroying our planet/culture/future part of the process…you’ll likely get a couple of answers here. Which you don’t immediately take at face value and double check yourself instead of accepting some slop at face value.
So there’s that. -
@skinnylatte true, the trade off may be that they also explain things when you ask to not explain things
-
@skinnylatte @briankrebs Better yet, just post the wrong solution to a problem and even more people will chime in to correct you.

@RachelThornSub@famichiki.jp @skinnylatte@hachyderm.io im not a programmer and im not talking from the perspective of an expert, but from perspective of someone who saw a lot of newcomers asking questions (mostly on reddit) and seeing someone getting insulted was quite rare there. Hence me asking

@_elena @cwicseolfor @skinnylatte would that work for random technical questions?
For example, I've long wondered why Texas had to shut down a nuclear reactor during that winter storm a few years back. How does cold weather affect nuclear energy?
